GEMBA Students Visit Qatar for Redesigned Module

Video conference with Ambassador Reuben Brigety from Addis Ababa

In February, the seventh cohort of the Georgetown-ESADE Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) completed its fourth residential module, traveling to Bangalore, India, and Doha, Qatar, over the course of two weeks. Though previous cohorts completed the Bangalore module, this marked the GEMBA program’s first time in Doha.

Student Tom LeClair applauded the change. “Visiting India and Qatar within the same two week span amplifies the experience of both countries,” he explained. “Technology, innovation, and human capital are explored with the canvas of one country living between two centuries and another country having developed itself only in the past 3 decades...The Qatar experience was amazing and is a tremendous asset to GEMBA.”

Leveraging the Doha campus of Georgetown’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and its relationships in the area, GEMBA students supported their classroom experience with several site visits, including Al Jazeera Studios Network and Qatar 2022 Legacy Pavilion, home of the FIFA 2022 World Cup bidding simulation.

Reflecting on the academic benefits of the Doha experience, student David Gozal added, “For four days, we navigated through the economic, financial, social, marketing and geopolitical complexities of the Middle East/North Africa region in an alluring mix of academic rigor, business pragmatism, and collegial discussions with an outstanding cadre of teachers.”

In January, 37 participants from 17 countries arrived on campus for the Global Competitiveness Leadership Program (GCL). Led in partnership by the Office of Executive Education and Georgetown’s Latin American Board , the 12-week program works to develop a new generation of socially responsible and innovative leaders in the Ibero-American region. Over the course of their studies, participants complete modules focused on four main topics: personal, corporate, political, and nonprofit leadership. Outside the classroom, participants visited both government and corporate institutions to meet with top leaders in the Washington area, including those at the Organization of American States, the Embassy of Ecuador, and the Brookings Institute. Earlier this month, the group also volunteered at the Cornerstone School in D.C., sharing their native cultures through games, food, and dance with pre-K through 12-grade students. The 2015 GCL class will graduate on April 9.
