Tinsley and Dillon-Merrill Article Selected as Top Paper by Risk Analysis

An article by Professor Cathy Tinsley and Associate Professor Robin Dillon-Merrill has been selected as one of the 2011 Best Papers by the journal Risk Analysis. The paper, titled "Why Near Miss Events Can Decrease an Individual's Protective Response to Hurricanes," originally was published in the March 2011 issue of the journal and includes Matthew Cronin of George Mason University as a co-author.
Freshmen Participate in First Year Seminar Case Competition

First-year McDonough School of Business undergraduates recently completed the First Year Seminar case competition, titled International Business, Public Policy, and Society. Students were tasked with investigating and proposing a solution to a challenge from the non-profit organization One Global Economy, which provides technical and informational assistance and access through social network and media sites worldwide – particularly in emerging markets.

Undergrads Present at Sustainability Conference

Five Georgetown McDonough School of Business undergraduates recently presented at the Corporate & College Collaborative for Sustainability conference hosted by The College of William & Mary's Mason School of Business in Williamsburg, Va. The conference is designed to connect today's leaders in business and sustainability with student and faculty leaders on college campuses. Georgetown was one of 12 schools represented at the conference.

Startup Weekend a Big Success for McDonough Entrepreneurs
After spending 54 non-stop hours working on an app to help students manage their courses and schedules, a team of entrepreneurs including MBA student Kevin Bergen and junior Carlos Cheung from Georgetown's McDonough School of Business took first place at Startup Weekend Washington DC EDU, held in the Hariri Building at Georgetown.

MBA Veteran-Students Share Their War Stories

"I am going to die if they can't move me," recounted Mark Wise, one of five Georgetown MBA students to share his "war story" at an event sponsored by the McDonough Military Association (MMA) on November 17, 2011.
War Stories and Free Beer began three years ago as an event to allow veterans in the MBA program at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business build camaraderie with other veteran-students and raise awareness and support for the military at McDonough.
