Ursula Burns to Graduates: Actively Engage in Change for the Better
 
When Ursula Burns was only 10, she heard something that she will never forget. She was told: “you are smart, but you have three strikes against you. You are black, you are a girl, and you are poor.”
Burns, who eventually became CEO and chairman of Xerox and the first black woman to lead a Fortune 500 company, was determined to persevere beyond this mindset. She asked the Georgetown McDonough class of 2018 to emerge from the sidelines and actively engage in change for the better so that future generations do not face the same obstacles she encountered.

The Financial Times ranking measures clients’ perceptions of the quality and delivery of the program, as well as the internationality of the overall program through a survey of each business school.

Luminaries Event Examines Impact of Technological, Demographic, and Cultural Changes on Real Estate
The Real Estate Luminaries Series is the year’s highlight for the Steers Center for Global Real Estate at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business. With support from lead sponsor HFF and contributing sponsor CRE Finance Council, the event brings together students, alumni, and others to honor leading real estate figures. This year’s event on April 19 was a little different, said Robert H. Steers (B’75, P’06, P’08, P’10), who chairs the center’s executive committee.

“Tonight is the first Luminaries session where technological, demographic, and cultural shifts are affecting real estate and society,” said Steers.

AB InBev Foundation and Georgetown’s Global Social Enterprise Initiative Partner on Underage Drinking
The harmful use of alcohol is a global health risk, and underage drinking is a widespread problem with serious negative consequences for young users and for society.

To address this issue, the AB InBev Foundation has formed a partnership with the Global Social Enterprise Initiative (GSEI) at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business to work on changing social norms and reducing youth alcohol use, beginning in South Africa.

Select undergraduate and MBA classes have partnered with AARP to help develop new ways to reach consumers who do not necessarily view themselves as part of an older demographic. Through the AARP Innovation Challenge, students at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business are fielding their own consumer research, developing prototypes, and pitching their ideas directly to AARP executives.
