Chris Long on “The Balance of Trust vs. Control” Global Confectionery Industry Leaders Sweet on Advice from Undergraduates 2014 Commencement Schedules

In the recent paper, "Controlling Routes to Trust: How Managers' Efforts to Demonstrate their Trustworthiness Moderate the Relationship between Managerial Controls and Subordinate Trust," Georgetown McDonough Assistant Professor Chris Long and his co-author examine the experience of trustees (i.e. managers, employers, leaders, etc.) and the actions they take to gain the trust of employees.

As part of a pilot program to provide undergraduate students with global business experience, a new elective course at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business recently took a group of 20 students to Barcelona, Spain, to meet with global confectionery industry leaders and make recommendations on the future of the industry for four international companies.

Commencement activities for undergraduate students will begin Thursday, May 15, with Senior Convocation at 2 p.m., followed Tropaia on Friday, May 16, at 10 a.m., and graduation on Saturday, May 17 at 6 p.m. MBA, Executive MBA, and Executive Master's in Leadership students will graduate on Friday, May 16, at 12:30 p.m. A reception will follow each graduation ceremony.

Spring Issue of Georgetown Business Georgetown McDonough Hosts Inaugural Trans-Pacific Partnership Conference EML Opens Program with Lessons from the Past
The spring issue of Georgetown Business magazine is out, with features on alumni and students making an impact in Africa, alumni working in all facets of the restaurant industry, and research by Assistant Professor Robert Davidson about predicting bad behavior in CEOs. The issue also includes news from the school, alumni updates, profiles of graduates, a Business Sense article about the value of originality, and a special section on Executive Education programs. On March 20, the Undergraduate Program Office, the McDonough Global Student Association, and the Georgetown Latin American Board co-sponsored the inaugural Trans-Pacific Partnership Conference. We welcomed nearly 100 students and faculty to engage in sessions and panels geared toward understanding the trade practices, growth, and economies of the Asia-Pacific region.

In early March, the Executive Master's in Leadership Program welcomed its 10th cohort for an opening residency at the Gettysburg Battlefields in Pennsylvania. Twenty-four students representing the government, non-profit, entrepreneurship, and financial services industries met to discuss Answering the Call: Strategy, Mobilization, Execution – and the Aftermath.
