Georgetown on the Hill Forum on Telecommunications Supporting the Studies of Military Members Sweatshops: A Debate October 30, 2012
On Tuesday, October 9, the Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy will present a Georgetown on the Hill forum, "Is it Time to Unify Telecommunications Policy? The Economic Evidence." The event features John Mayo, executive director of the center and professor of economics, business, and public policy at the McDonough School of Business.
When six active-duty military students in the Executive MBA (EMBA) class of 2012 enrolled in Georgetown McDonough in 2010, they had no idea that changes to the Post 9/11 GI Bill would lead to decreases in their tuition benefits. Kevin McGuire (BSBA/MSFS ’96), managing director at Goldman Sachs & Co., and Jake Hyde (C ’93), partner at Marathon Asset Management, stepped in to be of service to the servicemen. The Georgetown Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics will host a debate on the question: What ethical obligations do multinational enterprises have to the workers at the base of their supply chains? Edward Soule, associate professor of ethics at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, and Benjamin Powell, assistant professor of economics at Suffolk University, will present their views on the question and invite comments from the audience.
